Circumnavigation of Mount Athos – Monasteries of Chalcidice
Description
1st Day
Morning departure from Athens to Thessaloniki with a stop at Tempe where we will pilgrimage to Agia Paraskevi.
Arrival in Thessaloniki and pilgrimage to the Holy Church of Saint Demetrius, which is one of the most important Byzantine monuments. In the basement of the temple is the place of martyrdom of the saint.
We will continue with a pilgrimage to the Holy Temple Virgin "Ahiropiitos" located in the center of Byzantine Thessaloniki, close to Ancient Agora. The walls of the church are mosaics and have some frescoes.
Last pilgrimage today to the famous St. Sophia, «The Wisdom of God». Keeps mosaics from the era of iconoclasm, mosaic representation of the Virgin and an exceptional art mosaic dome depicting the Ascension. Departure to Nea Kallikrateia, arrival and check in at hotel.
2nd Day
Morning departure to Ouranopoli.. Circumnavigation of Mount Athos by boat of Agiorite line.. We will approach the Holy Monasteries Zografou, Kastamonitos, Docheiariou, Xenophon St. Panteleimon (Russian), Simonos Petras, Grigoriou Dionysiou, St. Paul, Nea Skiti, St. Anna. We will see throughout the western side of Mount Athos, the Garden of the Virgin Mary. Also we will stop onboard for veneration of relics which will be transferred by speedboat from the Monastery of Mount Athos. Back in Ouranopoli and then in Nea Kallikrateia.
3rd Day
Early on morning pilgrimage to Holy Monastery of Saint Anastasia Pharmacolytria and church attendance. Then we will visit the Monastery of St. John the Theologos in Souroti..
The monastery is dedicated to St. John the Theologian and St. Arsenius the Cappadocian, whose relics are in the church.
In the monastery there is also the grave of Elder Paisios. . On July 12, 1994 Elder reposed in the Lord and was buried next to the church of St. Arsenios.
Departure to Athens via Thessaloniki. Arrival in Athens late afternoon - evening.
